Robert L. Kerr, Pure Strategies' Co-founder and Principal, works with organizations to reduce the environmental footprints of their operations and products, and to integrate environmental and social sustainability into their planning and strategic positioning. His work with businesses and agencies includes:

  • Enhanced sustainability planning through the use of scenarios and simulations to assist companies in anticipating potential new markets and in preparing for the impacts and opportunities created by resource constraints, including water and energy shortages.
  • Analysis of company programs for restricting use of hazardous materials in operations and products, identifying alternative options for safer alternative processes or materials, and developing communications and strategies for organizations to strengthen consistency in safer chemicals policy implementation.
  • Design and development of commercial third-party assessments for consumer-product corporate sustainability performance.
  • Preparation of carbon footprints to assess energy-use and greenhouse gas emission hotspots.
  • Evaluation and design of options for use of emissions trading to increase materials-use efficiency, reduce emissions and promote economic development.
  • Design/presentation/facilitation of interactive workshops for food-processing industry on improving business performance through implementation of EMSs and sustainability planning.
  • Support for EPA’s National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy & Technology in development of strategies to promote R&D, implementation and diffusion of sustainable technologies.

Before his work as a consultant, Bob developed/negotiated legislative proposals and provided analysis for environmental and energy policies and programs during several years on House and Senate Congressional staff. In addition, he managed a Congressional committee’s oversight of the effectiveness of federal agencies’ implementation of environmental and minerals management laws. He also worked at EPA on the development of emissions trading and other market-based environmental programs.
